Remembrance Service in Jelgava on Saturday 10 November

Saturday, November 10, 2018 - 10:30

Every year the British Embassy commemorates Remembrance Day at the Commonwealth War Graves in Jelgava Military Cemetery. This year, the event will fall on Saturday the 10th of November  2018 and the Service will begin at 10:40 and last approximately 30 minutes.  Please note that this service is on a Saturday this year rather than the usual Sunday, in order to deconflict with Latvia’s commemoration events on the 11th of November. The British Ambassador HE Mr Keith Shannon and Defence Attaché Squadron Leader Mark Sapsford will lay a wreath on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen.  They will be followed by other Commonwealth and Latvian government representatives, military and Jelgava Municipality.  Other diplomatic representatives may lay wreaths immediately thereafter if they choose to do so.  A two-minute silence will be observed with a bugler from the Latvian National Defence Forces orchestra playing “the Last Post” and “Reveille”. The British Ambassador will also lay a wreath on the Latvian war memorial after the Commonwealth commemoration.  Some warm soup will be served immediately after the service.
