Remembrance Day Service in Jelgava

As in previous years, the British Embassy in Riga, held its annual Remembrance Day Service at the site of the Commonwealth war graves in the Jelgava Military Cemetery. This year the commemoration fell on Saturday the 9th of November 2019 and the Service began at 10:40 and lasted approximately 30 minutes. The British Ambassador HE Mr Keith Shannon and Defence Attaché Squadron Leader Mark Sapsford laid a wreath on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen. They were followed by other Commonwealth and Latvian government representatives, military and Jelgava Municipality as well as Chairman of BritCham Mr Cameron Greaves.  A two-minute silence was observed with a bugler from the Latvian National Defence Forces orchestra playing “The Last Post” and “Reveille”. The British Ambassador also laid a wreath on the Latvian war memorial after the Commonwealth commemoration.
