Joint Chamber Business Luncheon with Ilze Viņķele, Minister for Health of the Republic of Latvia

On 5 June BritCham in cooperation with the Irish, Swedish and Swiss Chambers of Commerce held Joint Chamber Luncheon with Ilze Viņķele, Minister for Health of the Republic of Latvia at the Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & SPA Hotel. The discussion was moderated by Ms Daina Dzirkale, External Affairs Director at GlaxoSmithKline Latvia.

The theme of the luncheon was “Way Towards more Efficient and Sustainable Health System in Latvia’’. During the luncheon Ms Viņķele talked about affordability, accessibility and acceptance of health care services in Latvia as well as other pressing issues related to the health care system. It was pointed out that Health Ministry’s general goal in health policy is to strengthen public confidence that health is a value. She mentioned that public has to be openminded by changing our perception on healthcare system as such as well as looking at opportunities how to improve it. Talking about health care budget perspective, Minister was quite optimistic about next year’s budget. following the presentation a lively discussion was initiated by moderator Daina Dzirkale and many questions were raised by guests including strategy for export of healthcare, managing and using big data as well as initiatives in government level to work on the 7 year vision for Latvia.
