Joint Chamber Business Breakfast with Mārtiņš Staķis

"Riga should become the first climate-neutral capital in the Baltics", meeting with representatives of foreign companies and investors working in Latvia on Thursday, 24 September, said Mārtiņš Staķis, the leader of the newly elected Riga City Council's largest fraction "Development / For! / Progressive" and possible mayor of Riga. The meeting was organised jointly with Irish Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Latvia and was kindly supported by ''LDZ apsardze''. The breakfast was attended by more than 70 foreign and local investors as wll as diplomats.

Mārtiņš Staķis presented his group's vision of priority directions in the new Riga City Council, naming the following: qualitatively better governance, including involving the non-governmental sector, education, mobility and infrastructure, urban environment and culture, environmental protection and climate neutrality, environmentally friendly housing policy; social security, economy and business.

During the meeting, entrepreneurs from various industries asked Mārtiņš Staķis questions to find out the possible actions of the new Riga City Council in solving various problems. Entrepreneurs asked about the provision of health services in the capital, education, kindergartens. Issues related to infrastructure and transport were also raised. Mārtiņš Staķis explained that a lot of attention will be paid to the repair of Riga's bridges and overpasses, as well as the integration of suburban railway traffic into the public transport system. Mārtiņš Staķis spoke about the possibilities to develop the infrastructure for cycling and other micromobility tools much faster than before.Mārtiņš Staķis also said that the city could compensate for the loss of Mars Park with a park in another location.

Representatives of foreign companies and investors wished Mārtiņš Staķis, the “Development / For! / Progressive” fraction and the Riga City Council in general success in achieving the set goals.
