Season Opening: Curry Cook-Off

Tuesday, September 6, 2022 - 18:00

We were delighted to welcome our members and friends on 6 September for the opening of BritCham season 2022/2021. Once more we kicked it off with our spiciest event – the Curry Cook-Off.

Firstly, a big thank you goes to our amazing teams for participating! We had 8 teams who provided a wide variety of curries to try and even some fusion surprises (yes, team Jedushberg, we mean you) . Some teams presented tried and tested dishes – like International School of Latvia team who made Nel Capadona’s (ISL Director) dad’s favourite recipe – while others bravely admitted that it was their first try at making curry – like Rīgas Porcelāns. We had entries that were made by a father and son duo – the FF Team – and entries made by colleagues coming together for a success – the ISR Curry Heroes team.

This led to our judges – restaurant Casa Nostra owner Sandra Kļaviņa, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Riga Ruth Rajavejjabhisal and “Singh’s” restaurant owner and BritCham Board member Kully Singh – having a really hard time to determine a winner but in the end the cup for the 1st place with a gift certificate from “Singh’s” restaurant went to the team Curry On who made Classic Dhaba Chicken Curry. We loudly applaud their excellent dish and effort!

As intense as the discussion of the judges were the voting for the Guest Favourite prize as well. With a lead of just one vote this title, cup and gift certificate from Casa Nostra were awarded to the team Curried Away with Tikka Masala. Loud applause for the team and this perfectly executed classic recipe! The 1st prize team Curry On came a close second, and team Mr Curry who presented a dish with a Latvian twist – aptly named with curry – was also a clear favourite and placed in the guests’ Top 3.

We would like to thank the sponsors without who this event would not have happened – “Singh’s” restaurant and Casa Nostra!

Once again, THANK YOU to the judges, the participants and all who attended! Let’s cross our fingers for as an eventful, fun and engaging season as was the evening of the Curry Cook-Off!
