English Law in Commercial Transactions

Competitive advantages and use. View from practitioners in Latvia.

The event is co-organized with Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns law office.

In a number of cross-border commercial and financing transactions effected in Latvia, choosing English law as the governing law of the contracts is considered and applied by the parties involved in these deals.

The seminar will focus on overall experience and practice of working with international partners and clients, which will be particularly relevant for:

  • Companies involved in or preparing for exports, cross border trade and services
  • Wide range of financial sector companies
  • Strategic and financial investors, involved in mergers and acquisitions

Most typical situations of English law application in the Baltics. Practical examples. What are the advantages of English law? Are counterparties sufficiently protected? UK as dispute resolution venue. Interpretation and understanding of most commonly used concepts in commercial contracts under English law. Similar and distinctive features of Latvian and UK legal systems. Brexit impact considerations.

Season Closing Event: British Garden Party

You are invited to celebrate the closing of British Business Days and BritCham's Season of 2018/2019 with the traditional Garden Party at the Radisson Blu Elizebete Hotel's terrace & restaurant. As in previous years this will be the occasion for ladies to take out and show off their hats.

It is our pleasure to announce a visit of Alan Coxon, the world-renowned chef, author, TV presenter, entrepreneur and the Ambassador for "Food is GREAT" campaign. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, and has been awarded the Palmes Culinaire, the Maitrise Escoffier and the Disciple of Escoffier awards. Recently Alan has created a BrieXit Cheese to commemorate the exit of the UK from Europe.

Alan together with Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel chef Aleksandrs Košanskis have planned an enticing menu for us, and he will also present a dish specially prepared for the Party.

The food will be accompanied by wines from Franzoni and Wolfberger wineries - kindly provided by "Singh's" restaurant and Amber Beverage Group. Upon arrival the guests will be offered to enjoy a glass of prosecco from Biasiotto vineyards, also compliments from "Singh's" restaurant.

Throughout the evening our friends Mirage Jazz Orchestra will delight everyone with some really good music. As always the event will be family friendly. Exupery International School will take charge of the Kids' corner and will make sure that the younger guests are entertained. No party is truly a British party unless there is a raffle - thus, you can expect one at this Garden Party as well.
