BritCham Season Opening: 12th Annual Curry Cook-Off

Thursday, September 13, 2018 - 18:00

BritCham Season Opening: 12th Annual Curry Cook-Off took place on 13 September at Kaļķu vārti. It was a great opportunity for BritCham members and friends to meet after the summer and spend a lovely evening on the restaurant's rooftop terrace.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the teams who participated! Your effort and enthusiasm is always at the heart of this event. The Curry Conquerers, who had named their curry simply Something Good, showed particular zeal by arriving in a very timely fashion (and so being the first to choose their spot :)  . This was also the first year when one team was made up from two BritCham members - Radissonblu who had made Chicken Coconut Madras represented two different Radisson Blu hotels.

When we all had had the chance to try the delicious and distinctive curries prepared and presented at this year’s cook-off, our judges – Marta Jaksona, Executive Director of the Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia (FICIL), the British Ambassador Keith Shannon and Kully Singh, owner of Singh’s restaurant - had to use their knowledge and experienced taste buds to choose the winners. And their decision was as follows:

1st place, a gift certificate from Indian Raja, MILZU! cereal gift, a certificate and the cup was presented to RISEBA Chefs for their Sri Lankan Chicken Biryani.

2nd place, a gift certificate from Kaļķu Vārti, MILZU! cereal gift set and a certificate went to Radisson Blu Daugava with their Mustangi Lamb Curry.

3rd place, a gift certificate from Casa Nostra, MILZU! cereal gift set and a certificate was awarded to British Embassy team Curry Favour for their Thai Green Curry.

Curry made by Radisson Blu Daugava was voted as the Guest Favourite and the team was awarded with a gift certificate from Sky Bar (Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel), MILZU! cereal gift, a certificate and the cup.

As appreciation for the participation and effort all teams also received something sweet from Sala cafe and a gift set from Mežpils beer.

We would also like to thank all the supporters of the 12th Curry Cook-Off who made this event possible: Casa Nostra, Indian Raja, Kaļķu vārti, Mežpils beer, Milzu! Cereal, Radisson Blu Latvija Conference & Spa Hotel, Sala café and Singh’s restaurant.

With this traditional event another BritCham season has begun, and we hope it will be as exciting as the Curry Cook-Off was.
